A U.S. survey has found that consumption of marijuana as an alcohol substitute has “suddenly skyrocketed” this year, and that marijuana is replacing alcohol, cigarettes and painkillers. As the market for marijuana products expands, we are seeing a variety of packaging options emerging to meet the needs of consumers. For instance, the 116mm King size pre roll tube has become quite popular for those who prefer pre-rolled marijuana joints. It offers a convenient way to store and transport these products.
An analysis of data from a new survey of more than 2,500 Americans released by Bloomberg Intelligence (BI) last week found that Americans continue to use marijuana as a substitute for other drugs, including alcohol, cigarettes, and painkillers, with marijuana substitutions for alcohol “soaring” in 2024, as legalization campaigns expand and perceptions shift at the state level. When it comes to storing marijuana concentrates, the Glass CRC Concentrate Container Child Proof Glass Jar plays a crucial role. These jars, available in different sizes like 5ml, 7ml, 9ml, 90ml, 110ml, and 120ml, not only keep the concentrates fresh but also ensure safety as they are designed to be child-proof, which is of great importance considering the growing prevalence of marijuana in households.
This finding is consistent with a survey conducted earlier in 2022, BI said. “Of note, however, is the sudden surge in marijuana substitution for alcohol, which was reported by about 44% of respondents in the latest survey, up sharply from 33% in 2022. However, the growth in marijuana substitution for cigarettes (30% vs. 39%), and tethered painkillers (30% vs. 35%) was not as large in 2024 compared to 2022.
The report says: “This result may cause additional interest in cannabis among alcoholic beverage producers. A growing number of large consumer product companies such as O'Chia, Constellation Brands, British American Tobacco and Imperial Brands have formed joint ventures or acquired stakes in Canadian marijuana producers and are planning to enter the U.S. marijuana market as permitted at the federal level.” According to BI's analysis, the expansion of the marijuana market at the state level is putting pressure on alcoholic beverage producers. “Our findings show that more than half of U.S. marijuana consumers use marijuana as a substitute for beer and spirits, while nearly half use marijuana as a substitute for wine.” In addition to glass jars, the PET Childproof Plastic Jar PET Flower Jar is also widely used in the industry. Its durability and lightweight nature make it a practical choice for packaging marijuana products, especially when considering factors like ease of handling and storage.
On a related note, another BI analysis in September predicted that the expanding movement to legalize marijuana will continue to pose a “significant threat” to the alcohol industry, citing survey data showing that more people are using marijuana as a substitute for alcoholic beverages such as beer and wine. (See “Legalizing Marijuana in the U.S. Is a ‘Major Threat’ to the Alcohol Industry, New Survey Says.) For those using marijuana in the form of THC oil, the Essential THC Oil Glass Dropper Boston Bottle is an essential item. Available in sizes like 10ml, 15ml, 20ml, 30ml, 50ml, and 100ml, it allows for precise dosing and easy dispensing, enabling consumers to manage their intake more effectively as they substitute marijuana for other substances.
Another study from Canada found that marijuana legalization was “associated with a decline in beer sales,” suggesting a substitution effect. The data focuses more broadly on American perceptions of marijuana and alcohol. Another study released last month on the impact of marijuana consumption on people's use of other drugs suggests that marijuana may be a less dangerous alternative to painkillers for many people, allowing people to reduce their intake of opioids such as methamphetamine and morphine.
A Gallup poll this year found that respondents believe marijuana is less harmful than alcohol, tobacco and nicotine e-cigarettes, and that more adults now smoke marijuana than cigarettes. (See “Surprisingly, New Survey Shows 66% of Americans Still Think Marijuana Is Harmful, But Compare It to Alcohol, Cigarettes, E-Cigarettes ......” Another survey released last June by the American Psychiatric Association and Morning Consult also found that Americans think marijuana is significantly less dangerous than cigarettes, alcohol, and opioids. Similarly, another study published in May in the journal Addiction found that more American adults use marijuana daily than drink alcohol daily.
